The Nigerian Army has announced plans to expand its formations across the country as part of efforts to strengthen operational capacity, Chief of Army Staff Major General Waidi Shaibu has said.

Shaibu made the announcement at the Chief of Army Staff First Bi-Annual Conference 2026 in Abuja, where he also commended officers for their resilience, gallantry, and professionalism in ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.

Personnel Insurance for Families of Fallen Heroes

During the conference, the Army presented personnel insurance cheques to the families of fallen soldiers and to wounded troops recovering from injuries sustained in the line of duty. Army spokeswoman Appolonia Anele said the gesture reflects the military’s commitment to honouring sacrifice and supporting those left behind.
