The Department of State Services has taken over rescue operations for abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, as abductors have made contact and demanded ransom.

The Defence Headquarters has deployed special forces to the area in support of the DSS-led rescue effort, as pressure mounts on the government to secure the release of the hostages.

The abduction, which occurred last week, has sparked nationwide outrage and raised fresh concerns about the security of schools in southwestern Nigeria.

Joint Rescue Operation

Security sources said the DSS is coordinating a multi-agency response involving the military, police, and local intelligence networks to locate the hostages and negotiate their release.

Parents of the abducted children have expressed frustration at the slow pace of the rescue effort, demanding more decisive action from security agencies.

The incident marks the latest in a series of school abductions across Nigeria, with thousands of students kidnapped in the past decade.
