Police Reject ₦500m Bribe, Seize ₦7.8bn Canadian Loud in Lagos Drug Bust
Police at the Zone 2 Command in Onikan, Lagos have arrested a businessman who allegedly ran a drug trafficking operation worth ₦7.8 billion under the cover of a PoS paper supply business — and rejected a ₦500 million bribe he offered to secure his release.
AIG Moshood Jimoh led journalists and senior officers to the suspect’s apartment at Arowojobe Estate in Maryland, Lagos, on Saturday. Cartons of PoS receipt printing papers sat in one room; bags of suspected Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, filled another. 425 bags in total, with an estimated street value of roughly ₦7.8 billion.
Months of Surveillance
The suspect, identified as Ekeh Henry Ifeanyi, had been under surveillance for months following intelligence reports. Police arrested him on May 19. Jimoh said Ifeanyi used the PoS paper business as a front to avoid suspicion, and drove a vehicle with a fake number plate bearing “Presidency, NYCN” to evade security checks.
When confronted, Ifeanyi allegedly offered ₦500 million to the officers to let him go. They refused.
Neighbours at the estate said they were stunned by the discovery. Several told reporters they had no idea the suspect was involved in any illicit activity.
The investigation is continuing, with police saying further arrests are expected as they work to identify others in the network.
