Tems Leads Nigerian Charge With Three Nominations at 2026 BET Awards

Tems has picked up three nominations for the 2026 BET Awards, leading the Nigerian pack as the full list of nominees was released on Tuesday. The ceremony is set for June 28 in Los Angeles, hosted by comedian Druski.

The Lagos-born singer is up for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, the BET Her Award for “First,” and the Viewers’ Choice Award for “Raindance” — her track with British rapper Dave.

Wizkid and Asake landed a joint nomination in the Best Group category, recognition of a collaborative run that has produced a string of hits over the past year. Burna Boy is nominated for Best Collaboration for “WGFT,” his feature on Gunna’s single.

Nollywood and Hollywood Crossover

It wasn’t just the musicians. Ayo Edebiri and Cynthia Erivo both got Best Actress nods, while Damson Idris is up for Best Actor — three actors of Nigerian heritage in major Hollywood categories.

Nigerian artists have been stacking BET trophies for years. Wizkid is one of the most-decorated African acts on the platform. Burna Boy has won repeatedly in the international categories. Davido, Tems, 2Baba, D’banj, and Ice Prince have all taken home awards, and Ayra Starr won Best International Act just last year.

Cardi B leads all nominees this year with six nods, including Album of the Year for “Am I the Drama?” Kendrick Lamar and Mariah the Scientist follow with five each. Two new categories — Fashion Vanguard Award and Pulse Award — join the lineup this edition.
