Six engineering students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi were kidnapped by armed men on Wednesday night from their off-campus lodge in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. A seventh person — a visitor — was also taken.

The attack happened around 9:00 PM. A group of unidentified gunmen stormed the students’ lodge at Anguwar Ninzo, Gudi, and carted off the victims to an unknown location.

Nasarawa State Police spokesperson SP Ramhan Nansel confirmed the incident and said a full rescue operation is underway. “The commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment,” Nansel said in a statement.

Security Forces Mobilised

A combined team of security agencies is now active in the Akwanga area. The operation involves the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilante groups. The Area Commander for Akwanga has been redeployed specifically to coordinate field activities.

Police are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of the abductors to contact the nearest security agency immediately. The victims are all students of the Faculty of Engineering at Gudi campus.

Insecurity in the Region

Nasarawa State has seen a pattern of kidnappings in recent years, particularly targeting students and travellers in its rural outskirts. The fact that this happened at a student lodge — not on the road — points to a brazen, targeted operation. As of filing this report, none of the students had been rescued.
