Police in Bauchi State say they have taken 17 children into protective custody after alleged rubber-solution abuse and arrested two adults suspected of supplying the substance.

Bauchi State Police Command spokesperson Nafiu Habib announced the operation in a statement on Saturday, describing interventions in two parts of Bauchi metropolis on Thursday night.

The children remain in protective custody while officers work to identify their parents and guardians and reunite them with their families, Habib said.

According to the police account, a resident first intervened on Adamu Jumba Street at about 10pm and handed eight children over to officers. A follow-up operation by the command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit found another nine near Wunti Flyover.

Habib said information obtained from the children led officers to arrest two suspected suppliers on Friday. Police said they recovered 12 packs of rubber solution during the operation.

The two adults remain in custody. Investigators are trying to identify other people in the alleged supply network, the command said.
