Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will have keyhole surgery on his left knee on Saturday, his club Galatasaray said on Friday.

Galatasaray said on X that Osimhen strained the knee in its Champions League match against VfB Stuttgart and that an MRI scan then found a loose body in the joint. The club doctor, Yener İnce, will carry out the arthroscopic operation at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital.

The operation comes a week before Nigeria’s next two qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The Super Eagles host Tanzania in Uyo on 13 November and play the return match in Tanzania on 17 November.

Galatasaray did not say how long Osimhen would be out. Vanguard and Daily Trust reported that he is expected to miss both qualifiers. The club has also left him out of its squad for Saturday’s league match against Amed SF.

Osimhen missed the September qualifiers with a muscle strain. Without him, Nigeria came from behind to beat Madagascar 2-1 in Uyo, then lost 3-0 to Guinea-Bissau in Bissau.

It is not yet known whether he will recover in time for either match.
