The Nigerian Army says troops killed two suspected kidnappers during a follow-up operation in Edimogbo Forest, Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State, on Tuesday.

Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, acting assistant director of Army public relations for 12 Composite Brigade, said in a statement that soldiers tracked fleeing suspects and cleared remaining hideouts.

The troops recovered two AK-47 rifles and seven magazines, according to the Army’s account. It also listed 438 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition and 4,725 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Other items recovered were two bandoliers, two mobile phones and a power bank, Abdullahi said.

The operation followed an earlier raid on a suspected kidnappers’ camp in the same forest on Monday. In that operation, the Army reported recovering about 1,000 rounds of ammunition and six motorcycles after the occupants fled.

Abdullahi said troops remained in the area. The statement did not identify the two people killed or announce any arrests during the follow-up operation.
