The Nigerian Army says troops have destroyed a suspected kidnappers’ camp in Edimogbo Forest, Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State, after its occupants fled.
The operation followed intelligence about suspected kidnappers in the forest, according to Army statements carried by Premium Times and Arise News on Tuesday.
Troops recovered about 1,000 rounds of ammunition, seven bandoliers and six motorcycles, the Army said. A mobile phone and a modem were also recovered.
Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, acting assistant director of Army public relations for 12 Composite Brigade, said the suspects fled deeper into the forest as troops advanced. The soldiers pursued them but made no further contact before destroying the hideout.
Appolonia Anele, acting director of Army public relations, said in a statement on Monday that troops of the 21 Battalion Quick Reaction Force carried out the operation and also destroyed supporting structures at the camp.
Anele said troops were continuing to search the surrounding area for the suspects. The Army has not said whether anyone has been arrested.
