The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it arrested two Paris-bound Nigerian travellers at Abuja airport after they allegedly swallowed 200 wraps of cocaine weighing 3.46 kilogrammes.

Agency spokesperson Femi Babafemi said in a statement on Sunday that officers intercepted the men during departure checks for Air France flight AF 832 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Wednesday.

The suspects, Aliocus Godian Odife and Sam Blackborn, were placed under observation after body scans indicated they had swallowed foreign objects, the agency said.

It said Odife passed 110 wraps weighing 1.901 kilogrammes, which tested positive for cocaine.

Blackborn passed 90 wraps weighing 1.559 kilogrammes, which also tested positive, according to the agency.

The same bulletin reported separate operations in Lagos, where officers seized 976 kilogrammes of cannabis from two commercial buses, and an arrest involving 266 rounds of ammunition along the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway.

The statement did not give a court date for the airport suspects.
