The Kogi State Police Command is investigating a shooting at ASCO Camp in Ajaokuta on October 23 in which two serving officers died.

The officers were identified as Corporal Amos Yusuf and Corporal Grace Onimisi. Both were taken to separate medical facilities, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths, the command said.

In a statement issued on Sunday, police spokesperson ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat said preliminary findings indicated that Yusuf, who was on night duty, shot Onimisi before shooting himself. That account remains part of an ongoing police investigation.

The incident was reported at 11:04 p.m., after which the Ajaokuta Divisional Police Officer led a team to the scene. Police said a rifle and four expended cartridges were recovered as exhibits.

The command said the officers’ remains were deposited at the mortuary of ASCO Hospital. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Commissioner of Police Naziru Bello Kankarofi offered condolences to the officers’ families and colleagues. The command said the circumstances and motive had not been established and that it would provide verified updates as the investigation progressed.
