Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke arrested an 18-year-old motorcycle rider during an operation against alleged pipeline vandalism in Gou community, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, the military says.
The task force said soldiers moved to the location on October 20 after receiving intelligence during a patrol. The suspected vandals had fled before the troops arrived, according to its account.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, acting media information officer Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu identified the detained rider as Aondoyima Agber. He alleged that the teenager was trying to transport a section of the pipeline.
The statement, carried by Punch and Daily Post, said Agber remained in custody awaiting further directives.
Force Commander Major General Moses Gara, who is also General Officer Commanding of the Army’s 5 Division, commended the troops’ response and warned against damage to public infrastructure.
The task force said patrols were continuing in the area. Gara urged residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
