FCT Police Commissioner Ahmed Sanusi has met leaders of farmers and herders from Dabiri and Paiko in Gwagwalada Area Council, warning against reprisals after violence in the communities.
He asked the leaders to help police identify and hand over people allegedly responsible for the attacks, and to resolve disputes through dialogue and lawful channels.
Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said the meeting followed reports of unrest between the groups. Sanusi warned that incitement and retaliation could reignite tensions and endanger entire communities.
The reports differ on the meeting’s date: Vanguard places it on Monday, October 19, while Daily Trust says the representatives were summoned on Tuesday.
Sanusi said security measures had been strengthened and the situation was under control. He urged residents of Dabiri, Paiko and neighbouring communities to cooperate with deployed officers and resume lawful activities.
The command asked residents to report suspicious people or activities to the nearest police station or call 08032003913 or 08061581938.
