Police in Ogun State say they have rescued 11 Ghanaian nationals allegedly held against their will in Sagamu after being promised visas to Canada and Spain.

The group comprised seven males and four females. Police said they were receiving care and support.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said Anti-Kidnapping Unit operatives mobilised to the location after receiving intelligence on October 19.

According to the police account, preliminary investigations indicated that a fellow Ghanaian had promised to arrange overseas travel for the group. Each person reportedly paid GH₵40,000 before being brought to Nigeria and held against their will.

The allegations remain under investigation. The command said detectives were working to identify and apprehend everyone connected with the case.

Ogun Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the unit’s response and said the command would continue efforts to bring those responsible to justice.

Police urged prospective travellers to verify overseas travel and visa-processing arrangements before paying and to report suspicious activity.
