Four Ogun police officers arrested over alleged assault in viral video
Four police officers have been arrested over the alleged assault of a young man in the Ijagba area of Ota, Ogun State, the state police command says.
The command said disciplinary procedures had begun and Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni had ordered a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.
The action followed the circulation of a video showing a young man pinned to the ground and handcuffed. The man was reportedly detained for wearing camouflage shorts, although that account remains an allegation.
Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi initially said on Sunday that the four officers had been identified and summoned to the command headquarters at Eleweran, Abeokuta. Punch reported that they were on their way to the headquarters.
In a subsequent statement reported by Daily Trust, Babaseyi said the four officers had been apprehended and disciplinary procedures initiated to establish what happened and determine the appropriate action.
The commissioner said any proven misconduct would be addressed under established regulations and that the investigation would be guided by evidence and due process.
The command asked anyone with credible, first-hand information about the incident to cooperate with investigators. It also urged the public to avoid speculation or circulating unverified claims that could prejudice the inquiry.
