The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has recovered the door that detached from a Triton private jet after take-off from Abuja and begun an investigation into the incident.

The door is being held at the bureau’s wreckage hangar. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances in which it separated from the aircraft.

The aircraft, a Challenger 604 registered T7-SEI, was flying from Abuja to Lagos. The bureau’s account puts the number on board at nine: three crew members and six passengers.

The crew declared a Mayday emergency after the door separated, turned back and landed safely on Runway 22 in Abuja at 16:34 UTC, according to the account carried by Vanguard and Daily Post.

NaijaTrend earlier reported the aircraft’s return to Abuja here. That initial report described the missing door after landing, before its recovery was announced.

NSIB Director-General Captain Alex Badeh Jr said: “NSIB will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.”
