A female National Youth Service Corps member died after an articulated truck collided with a motorcycle near Agodi Gardens in Ibadan on Monday, October 12.
The motorcycle rider suffered a fractured leg. The Federal Road Safety Corps said the corps member’s body was taken to the State Hospital morgue, while the injured rider was taken to University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Oyo Sector Commander Kehinde Dahunsi confirmed the death and rescue operation in an interview reported by Daily Post. He said rescuers could not establish the deceased’s identity at the scene.
Punch and Vanguard reported eyewitness accounts alleging that the truck had struck other vehicles around Sango before reaching Agodi Gardens. The witnesses alleged that the driver was trying to leave the earlier collisions when the fatal crash occurred; that account had not been independently established.
The reports also described other injuries, but did not provide a confirmed total. There was no confirmation in the reports that the driver had been arrested.
NYSC’s Oyo spokesperson, Abimbola Faniyi, said efforts were continuing to establish the deceased’s identity and place of primary assignment.
