Army plans Ahoada brigade as Fubara pledges Rivers support
A new Nigerian Army brigade is planned for Ahoada in Rivers State, with Governor Siminalayi Fubara promising support for the formation and its affiliated battalions.
The plan was outlined on Friday during a visit to Government House, Port Harcourt, by Brigadier General Ismaila Sule, the new commander of the Army’s 6 Division Garrison.
Sule, who also commands Sector Three of Operation Delta Safe, said Rivers would benefit from the Army’s expansion of formations. He said the brigade would be stationed in Ahoada in the coming days.
Fubara welcomed the proposed location, saying it could help address security problems and reduce tension in the Ahoada area.
He said the state would increase its support for the Army and continue cooperation over protection of lives, property, oil installations and pipelines.
The governor also said the partnership should promote peace and that the state would not ask the military to act outside its professional responsibilities or oppress anyone.
Sule said he assumed command on September 30 and was visiting to introduce himself formally to the governor. He assured Fubara that the Army would work to maintain peace and security during his tenure.
