Lagos fire service reports 210 rescues across 1,324 emergencies
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service says it rescued 210 people while responding to 1,324 emergency incidents between January and September 2026.
Its third-quarter activity report listed 1,135 fire calls, 79 rescue calls, 100 salvage operations, nine building collapses and one gas-related explosion. Spokesperson Maria Fadairo shared the report’s highlights on Thursday, according to Premium Times.
The agency also reported recovering 65 suspected fatalities from emergency scenes during the nine-month period.
The agency estimated that it saved property worth N79.44 billion, while losses amounted to N13.24 billion. The total estimated value of affected property was N92.68 billion.
January had the highest number of incidents, with 203, followed by March with 201. September recorded the lowest total, at 94. March had the most fire calls, with 176.
The report recorded 341 false emergency calls. Controller-General Margaret Adeseye warned that false calls could delay responses to genuine emergencies.
With the dry season approaching, she advised residents to avoid indiscriminate burning, handle flammable materials carefully, switch off unused electrical appliances and avoid overloaded sockets. She also urged property owners to keep fire extinguishers working and escape routes and access points clear.
