Police confirm three killed in attack on Kebbi road construction site
Three people were killed and two civilians injured in an attack on a road construction site in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State, police have confirmed.
The victims included two security personnel and a foreign worker on the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway project. The attack took place in Gubba village, in Andarai District.
Kebbi police spokesperson Bashir Usman said the gunmen were suspected Lakurawa members who entered from the Kebbe axis of neighbouring Sokoto State. Vanguard reported him identifying the dead as two soldiers and a Chinese national, and placed the attack on Thursday.
Premium Times and Daily Post reported that the two injured civilians were evacuated for medical treatment. Usman also said police repelled another attack along the Birnin Malam axis on the same day.
Joint security teams were deployed to the area. Vanguard reported that the police spokesperson said security agencies were pursuing the attackers; he did not release the soldiers’ names.
Construction at the affected site has been suspended, according to Premium Times and Daily Post.
