FRSC says nine died in bus-truck crash on Ijebu-Ode/Ore road
Nine people died in a collision involving a commercial bus and a truck on the Ijebu-Ode/Ore Expressway in Ogun State on Monday, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The Ogun command said the victims comprised three males and six females. Daily Trust reported that the crash happened at about 4:55pm while it was raining and the road was wet.
The vehicles were a white Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Delta Line, with registration number 14B-299DT, and a white Sino Truck with registration number AAB162XD. Channels Television reported that the truck belonged to Bill Gas Solution Ltd.
In a statement on Monday night, the FRSC command said a preliminary investigation identified speeding as the probable cause.
The victims’ bodies were taken to the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode. The vehicles were towed to Ilese Police Station, according to the command.
Ogun Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi urged motorists, especially commercial vehicle operators, to obey speed limits, leave safe distances between vehicles and exercise extra caution during rain.
The command warned that wet roads reduce tyre grip and visibility, making it harder to control a vehicle or stop safely. It extended condolences to the victims’ families.
