Police confirm suspected Lakurawa attack on Sokoto community
Police have confirmed an attack by suspected Lakurawa fighters on Ungushi community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Sunday morning.
Residents reported that two people were killed and a community vigilante was injured.
Sokoto State police spokesperson Ahmed Rufai said the Divisional Police Officer in the area had reported the attack, but the command was still awaiting details. He did not confirm the casualty figures reported by residents.
According to residents quoted in Punch and Daily Post, the attackers surrounded the community and opened fire before vigilantes engaged them in a gun battle. Punch also reported residents’ account that three attackers were killed in the exchange; police had not confirmed that claim.
The two residents reported killed were identified as Ali Kaurar Yaku Marshall and Lukman Bawa, a welder. A vigilante identified as Mustapha Auwalu was reportedly shot in the right leg and taken to the General Hospital, where medical personnel removed the bullet.
