Three killed in Minna vigilante-youth clash; police seek suspects
Three people have been killed in violence involving vigilantes and youths in the Kpakungu and Gbeganu areas of Minna, Niger State, after the alleged shooting of a man during a vigilante operation.
The violence began on Saturday night, October 3. By early Sunday, youths had blocked the Minna-Bida Road in protest, disrupting traffic before the unrest spread to Gbeganu.
According to the police account reported by Channels TV, a vigilante member allegedly shot and killed a man identified as Aliyu while the group was trying to arrest suspected miscreants in Kpakungu.
Youths later allegedly attacked residents in Gbeganu, where two more people were reported killed. Daily Post reported that the two victims were buried shortly after the incident.
Niger State police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said tactical teams had dispersed the rioters and cleared the road. He said patrol teams remained in the affected areas and that normalcy had been restored.
Police were still seeking the vigilante member suspected of firing the fatal shot and other people linked to the violence. The command urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding.
