One dead, another injured in Odukpani petrol tanker fire
One person has died and another sustained serious injuries after a petrol tanker crashed and caught fire opposite the Odukpani Local Government Secretariat in Cross River State.
The tanker overturned in the accident, and the fire spread to nearby shops and buildings. Vehicles were also affected.
The driver, who was reportedly trapped in the flames, was rescued and taken to hospital. The Cross River State Police Command said officers from its Odukpani Division had been deployed to secure the area and protect residents and passersby.
Punch reported that a later update confirmed one death and one person with serious injuries receiving treatment. Daily Post’s earlier account said no death had been confirmed at the time it was filed.
Police spokesperson Eitokpah Sunday said the Fire Service had been alerted to contain and extinguish the blaze. The reports did not establish that the fire had been put out.
The command urged residents and motorists to stay away from the immediate area and give emergency responders unhindered access.
