Navy rescues two kidnapped victims in Akwa Ibom
The Nigerian Navy says it has rescued two kidnapped victims during an operation against sea robbery and kidnapping in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom State.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday, September 30, after intelligence on suspected sea robbers and kidnappers targeting fishermen, fishing boats and outboard engines, according to a Navy statement reported on Thursday.
The Navy said personnel from Nigerian Navy Ship JUBILEE’s Maritime Quick Response Team in Ibeno moved into the area, rescued the two victims and recovered several stolen outboard engines.
The service urged coastal communities, fishermen and maritime stakeholders to continue sharing timely information with security agencies as part of efforts to protect lives and legitimate activity on Nigeria’s waterways.
