Worker dies as building collapses during Anambra demolition
A worker has died after part of an old building collapsed during demolition in Otolo-Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The victim was identified in the reports as Bakeru Iwal. Premium Times reported that he was inside the building on Tuesday when a section collapsed and trapped him. Both reports placed the incident in Otolo-Nnewi.
Punch reported that the deceased was 25 years old and was one of the workers at the site. Residents and eyewitnesses told the outlet that the structure was being demolished when a section gave way.
Anambra police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said officers from the Otolo Divisional Headquarters responded after receiving information about the incident. The body was taken to a mortuary for autopsy and other examinations.
Ikenga said police cordoned off the area and began preliminary investigations to establish the circumstances around the collapse.
The incident happened during demolition work at the site.
