FG declares October 1 public holiday for Independence anniversary
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, October 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
The minister congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad and urged citizens to use the anniversary to promote unity, patriotism and peaceful coexistence.
Channels Television reported that the anniversary is being marked under the theme, “From Reforms to Stability.” Punch and Daily Post also reported the same October 1 holiday declaration.
The holiday applies across the federation.
