Three women have been killed and another person injured after gunmen attacked a mining site in Rakum community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack happened around 4:30 p.m. on Monday while people were working at the site. Daily Post and Premium Times reported that the attackers opened fire and fled the area.

Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, confirmed the attack to journalists in Jos and urged security agencies to track down those responsible.

Premium Times reported that there was no immediate police or military statement on the attack. Daily Post quoted a survivor as alleging that the attackers came from nearby rocks and bushes before opening fire.

The report came days after fresh security measures in parts of Plateau, including Barkin Ladi, Mangu and Bokkos, following recent attacks. Authorities are expected to clarify whether any arrests have been made.
