NDLEA and Army destroy cannabis farms, arrest two in Edo
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the Nigerian Army have destroyed two cannabis farms in Edo State and arrested two suspects.
The operation took place on September 23, 2026, at Eko Camp in Illushi, Esan South-East Local Government Area. The farms measured 0.544092 hectares and had an estimated yield of 1,360.23kg of cannabis.
Officials also destroyed 107kg of processed cannabis, including seeds. Daily Trust put the total drug quantity at 1,467kg by adding the farm yield and the processed cannabis.
Edo NDLEA Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju identified the suspects as Ajeh Egwuda, 43, and Nonso Ajodhe. He said both men were from Esan South-East Local Government Area.
Ofoyeju said Ajeh was found on a 0.068011-hectare farm estimated to yield 170.03kg of cannabis, while Nonso was found on a 0.476081-hectare plot estimated at 1,190.20kg. The suspects were quoted by the agency as attributing their involvement to poverty and the influence of friends.
