Kano leads 2026 NECO ranking as Lagos comes second
Kano State has recorded the highest number of candidates with at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination conducted by NECO.
The state had 74,413 candidates who met the benchmark. Lagos came second with 72,496 candidates, while Oyo placed third with 55,543, according to figures reported from the examination council.
The result means Kano retained the top position for a second consecutive year. The state government said the latest figures followed its 2025 performance, when it also led the same five-credit benchmark.
Governor Abba Yusuf congratulated students, teachers and parents. His spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the government spent more than ₦4.4bn in 2026 to sponsor candidates for the examination, especially indigent students.
