Plateau assures motorists after three vigilantes are killed in Kassa

The Plateau State Government has assured motorists that the Jos-Barkin Ladi highway remains open after an attack in Kassa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, left three vigilantes dead.

The government condemned the killings and appealed to residents not to block the highway while security agencies search for those responsible. Women and youths in Kassa had reportedly protested after the attack, causing traffic delays on the route.

Daily Post reported that troops responded to gunshots in the community around 12:40am on September 25 and later recovered three bodies. The victims were identified as Ishaya Pam, 48, Barnabas Gyang, 27, and Daniel Mutuwal, 30.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, said the government understood the grief of affected families but warned that road blockades could expose other travellers to danger. She urged residents to stay calm, remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.

Channels TV and Premium Times also reported the government’s assurance that security agencies were working to identify and arrest the attackers. Daily Trust reported that protesters demanded stronger protection for communities in the area after the killings.
